Area basketball roundup: Baldwin boys earn shot to defend tournament title

Baldwin City — The Baldwin High School boys advanced past Bonner Springs on Friday to earn a chance to defend their Baldwin Invitational Tournament title.

Baldwin went on a 14-3 run in a six-minute stretch in the first and second quarters to separate from the Braves. Bonner Springs attempted to get back in the game with four three-pointers in the third quarter, but Baldwin answered with transition baskets and easy scores in half-court offense.

Baldwin built a 70-50 lead in the final period as the Bulldogs continued to find good shots while the Braves cooled from outside.

Baldwin will play Augusta in today’s tournament’s championship game. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
