LMH Endowment Association hands out five Watkins awards

Out of a pool of 19 nominees, the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Endowment Association handed out five awards Thursday, recognizing those who have supported community healthcare.

Two community members, Lorna Allen and Reaumur Donnally; two businesses, Ellena Honda and Cork and Barrel; and one hospital employee, Janice Seymour, took home an Elizabeth Watkins Community Caring Award at the Endowment Association’s annual meeting at the Arterra Event Gallery. It is the seventh year the awards have been handed out.

Over a dozen tables were filled with attendees, who were treated with speeches from hospital administrators before the awards’ unveiling.

Allen has been a volunteer for the hospital since 1995 and has held various seats and positions related to its gift shop. Donnally was recognized for his work as an oncology volunteer coordinator and his service on several hospital committees. Eight others received a nomination for the individuals category of the Watkins awards.

Cork and Barrel received the honor after its owner, Jon Smiley, along with his family, created the Eleanor Gayle Smiley Fund, which provides support to LMH patients with chronic diseases and their families. Ellena Honda was recognized for being a longtime sponsor of the hospital. Four other businesses received nominations.

Janice Seymour, office manager of the Pharmacy, IV Therapy and Anticoagulation Clinic at the hospital, received the nod after 30 years of employment. Two other employees received nominations.
