Newton — Lawrence High’s Alan Clothier placed second in the 182-pound weight class as the Lions’ wrestling team competed Friday and Saturday at the Newton Tournament of Champions.
Clothier went 4-1 at the tournament, pinning Mill Valley’s Nathan Anderson, winning by decision over Dodge City’s Jhett Ostrom and winning by major decision over Colby’s Andrew Taylor, before falling to Newton’s Jared Langley in a 3-2 decision.
Lions teammate Alex Jones went 4-2 and took fourth place in the 285-pound weight class.
Ryan Bellinger (3-2, 170 pounds) and Garrett Girard (3-2, 132 pounds) also scored points for Lawrence High, which only had seven wrestlers at the tournament.
The Lions will compete Thursday at home against Olathe South.
