47-year-old Ottawa man sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for meth distribution

A 47-year-old Ottawa man was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison on Wednesday for trafficking methamphetamine.

James New pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine from Dec. 2010 to March 2012 in Franklin County, according to the office of U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom.

Law enforcement officers seized methamphetamine, scales, plastic bags and more than $22,000 in cash after stopping New in March 2012. According to Grissom, investigators learned that New was spending $10,000 for 10 ounces of methamphetamine twice a week and distributing it to Franklin County customers.

Two others were previously sentenced as co-defendants in the case. Jessica Blackstone, 28, of Williamsburg, was sentenced to nearly 10 years in federal prison and Nicholas Griffin, 34, of Ottawa, was sentenced to more than six years in federal prison.
