Lawrence school district reports 41 gallons of gas in two vans went missing

The Lawrence public school district, USD 497, filed a police report Tuesday believing 41 gallons of gas had been siphoned from two of its vans sometime over winter break, according to Lawrence police.

Julie Boyle, a USD 497 spokesperson, said the vans were located at 2600 W. 25th St., where the district houses its Community Connections Center.

No classes were held from Dec. 21 through Jan. 5. The report was filed Tuesday, said Laurie Powell, a Lawrence Police Department spokesperson.

Powell said police had no suspect descriptions. The district will now install locking gas caps on the vans, Boyle said.
