United Way, Boys & Girls Club hold donation drive for King Day

As a project to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the United Way of Douglas County and the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence are holding a donation drive for hygiene products through Jan. 17.

Donations will benefit local nonprofits such as the Lawrence Community Shelter and the Willow Domestic Violence Center. Accepted items include shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, soap, feminine hygiene products, baby lotion, baby powder and baby shampoo.

Items may be dropped off in collection bins at the four Dillons locations, the Hy-Vee on Sixth Street and the United Way office at 2518 Ridge Court.

The donation drive is part of a larger service project in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 20.

A day of service will be held Jan. 19 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence, 1430 Haskell Ave. Items collected from the donation drive will be packaged and delivered that day. In addition, volunteers will bag trail mix for Just Food, the Douglas County food bank, and create bracelets for Douglas County CASA.
