Closings, Jan. 5-6

The Ballard Center's two locations in Lawrence are closed Jan. 6.

All morning recreation instruction and aquatics classes provided by the city of Laurence's Parks and Recreation department are canceled. Programs starting after noon will run as scheduled. Recreation and aquatic centers will open at regularly scheduled times.

Hilltop Child Development Center closed for Jan. 6.

Raintree Montessori School closed for Jan. 6

Just Food closed for Jan. 6

The Lawrence Arts Center's arts-based preschool canceled for Jan. 6 After school classes and auditions will be held as scheduled.

Lawrence USD 497 classes are canceled for Monday, Jan. 6.

Bishop Seabury Academy classes are canceled for Monday, Jan. 6.

Perry-Lecompton USD 343 scheduled a teacher in-service day for Jan. 6.

Wellsville USD 289 classes are canceled for Monday, Jan. 6.

Basehor USD 458 classes are canceled for Monday, Jan. 6.

McLouth USD 342 classes are canceled for Monday, Jan. 6.

Oskaloosa USD 341 classes are canceled for Monday Jan. 6.

Eudora USD 491 classes are canceled for Monday, Jan. 6.

Tonganoxie USD 464 classes are canceled for Monday, Jan. 6.

Baldwin City USD 348 classes are canceled for Monday, Jan. 6.

De Soto USD 232 has no classes Monday, Jan. 6 due to a professional in-service day.

yeah, but you were probably wearing high tech Gortex boots and clothing. While sporting sensible fleece lining with goose down calzoncillos probably.

Those things had not been invented when I was a girl. We wore cotton, wool and leather and as a girl I had to wear a dress to school regardless of the weather.

This is very late for the closing postings to be announced. People knew very cold weather was coming. The announcements should have been made on Friday or, at worst, on Saturday so that parents could make proper arrangements.

People could have still made arrangements then, I don't fault the school for waiting to be sure, tomorrow's high is 40°, weather is a fast changing thing
