Lawrence High graduate Emma Reaney broke the NCAA and American record on the 200-yard breaststroke in the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships on Saturday in Greensboro, N.C.

Reaney won it 2:04.34, bettering the 2012 mark of 2:04.48 by Texas A&M’s Breeja Larson, an Olympic gold-medal winner.

The two could meet in the NCAA Championships next month.

“I dropped about a second off my best time,” said Reaney, who was named Most Valuable Women’s Swimmer of the meet. “We’ve been discussing taking it out faster, and my coach has been telling me that if I am under a minute in the first 100, I am going to go 2:04, and that’s what happened tonight.”

Reaney last year was named the Big East’s Most Outstanding Swimmer after winning six titles and earning All-Big East honors seven times.
