Some hazardous weather in several forms is forecasted for the Douglas County area Wednesday night and into Thursday evening.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for Douglas County and surrounding areas beginning Thursday at 6 a.m. lasting until 6 p.m. Strong northwest winds will reach 25 mph to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.

The NWS cautions that traveling may be difficult for some vehicles and to secure trash cans, lawn furniture and other lightweight outdoor items.

A winter weather advisory has also been issued for Thursday morning across north central and northeast Kansas. One to two inches of heavy wet snow is possible through the morning. Snowfall is expected to end around noon Thursday.

Until then, strong to severe thunderstorms are likely Wednesday evening. The NWS said areas southeast of a line between Emporia and Topeka are most likely to be affected by the storms. Large hail around one inch in diameter is the primary hazard.
