Why the loss to Kansas State? Because they shot much better, had more assists and simply wanted it more. KU did outrebound them by 14, but when you make your shots like K-State did, there is nothing to rebound!

Numerous times, it looked like KSU was in the pregame layup drill and KU was watching it all. KU defense was very woeful. Seems to me like a three-man zone about six to eight feet from their basket could have prevented a few too-easy shots. A couple more free throws made could have won it, too — in regulation. I know that they say about hindsight being better (true as it is), but if I were paying someone $5-$6 million a year to coach, I’d like to think he might have some foresight or at least some game-time sight.

Mr. Williams was quoted in the Journal-World the day after KU’s lost to Syracuse by three points as saying “I never worry about free throws” in a game in which KU made 12 of 30 shots only to lose by three points for the championship. Huh? What a shame. I’d have kept quiet.

When KU beat Oklahoma for the national title in 1988, Mr. Brown said in the paper, “I tried to get them to slow down, but they wouldn’t listen to me.” I can’t see anything bad about Danny and crew doing it their way and winning it all after they had done things his way and lost to Oklahoma two or three times during the season. Just another time I’d have kept quiet.

If KU can’t do it, more power to the Shockers!
