Kansas University Hospital has raised some initial funds to help pay for a new 92-bed facility it hopes to build on its Kansas City, Kan., campus.
Today the hospital announced gifts totaling $3.5 million from private donors. Greg Graves, chairman and CEO of Kansas City-based engineering company Burns & McDonnell, and wife Deanna have pledged $1 million for the new building. The Burns & McDonnell Foundation, funded by employees of Burns & McDonnell, pledged another $2.5 million.
Dennis McCulloch, a KU Hospital spokesman, said the gifts were the first raised for the building so far. Altogether, the hospital hopes to raise $100 million in gifts toward the $250 million project.
The hospital has not yet announced a construction timetable.
