Lawrence man arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery after Haskell incident

A 22-year-old Lawrence man was booked into Douglas County Jail Wednesday on suspicion of aggravated battery stemming from an altercation last week.

Lawrence police arrested Jacob Earnest Mason in the 2300 block of Louisiana Street Wednesday afternoon after having searched for him following a Feb. 6 incident inside Haskell Indian Nations University’s Roe Cloud Hall.

Mason, a former Haskell student who was also cited for failing to appear in municipal court in connection with an unrelated offense, allegedly punched a 20-year-old Haskell student during last week’s incident, according to Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence Police Department spokesman.

The victim, Colton Lee Lighthall, told police that Mason confronted him regarding unspecified accusations made last semester and that when Lighthall tried to walk away, Mason punched him in the face, McKinley said. Lighthall declined to be taken to the hospital by Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical personnel in spite of reporting a lost tooth and injuries to his jaw and lip, McKinley said.
