Poet Anne Carson to help KU celebrate career of classics professor Stanley Lombardo

Kansas University will mark the retirement of a long-time classics professor with a performance of an ancient Greek classic.

On Feb. 14, poet and translator Anne Carson will read from “Antigonick,” a translation and interpretation of the classical Greek tragedy Antigone, to celebrate the the career of KU professor Stanley Lombardo.

Lombardo has taught Greek and Latin at KU since 1976. In that time he has won a KU Kemper Teaching Fellowship and a Mortar Board Teaching Award. He has also translated classical texts such as the “Illiad” and “Odyssey.”

The reading will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Spencer Museum of Art auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
