No snowmageddon in Lawrence this week; in fact, the opposite

Snow flurries will whiten Douglas County skies into Sunday night, but don’t hunker down for another record storm just yet.

The National Weather Service in Topeka is predicting a snowy Sunday to continue in Lawrence, with limited accumulation in the 1- to 2-inch range. The snow is expected to let up after dark, giving way to a chilly overnight low of 1 degree heading into Monday.

Monday and Tuesday, the chance for more snow decreases to just 10 percent, NWS predicts. Monday will have a high near 20 degrees, with Tuesday reaching into the low 30s.

But there’s hope in the forecast: Wednesday will bring a high near 40 degrees, NWS says, leading up to a weeklong span of downright balmy 50-plus-degree highs starting Thursday.

The projected high a week from Monday? Fifty-six degrees, a far cry from the 20-below wind chills and 14-plus-inch snows of recent memory.
