Whether fashionable and/or functional, here are nine low-cost ways to refresh your bathroom without spending thousands of remodeling dollars.
Handcrafted washcloths, $4.25
Made with organic cotton, these chunky knit handmade washcloths give the bathroom the homey feel you’ve been looking for. These artisan washcloths, knitted by local artist Lis Niswonger are a popular item found at Essential Goods, 825 Massachusetts St., with shoppers nostalgic of items knit by their grandmothers, says owner Molly Crook. For a smaller spaces, it can easily be folded in half to fit. Who says the floor can’t look good too?
Bazil Essentials Candles, $19.50
It’s never a bad idea to get some fragrances in the air of the bathroom, and what better way to do that than with organic soy candles. The b.e. (Bazil Essentials) line of candles, available at Essential Goods, and made by Lawrence resident Courtney Gray, come in various scents and mantras; the cedarwood forest is b.e. tranquil and the peppermint eucalyptus is b.e. serene. Those are two sought-out qualities for a relaxing bath after a long day at work, complete with burning candles. The best part is that when left out, but not lit, they still offer a refreshing deodorizing effect. Much better aesthetically and fragrance-wise than over-intrusive aerosol cans.

Replace your current shower head with an Exquisite handheld shower head with five different settings. It hooks up directly to your already existing shower arm so it’s really easy to connect, says Rod Ernst, owner of Ernst and Son Hardware, 826 Massachusetts St. The direct contact of the water stream to your skin provides the comfort after selecting one of the following settings: spray, massage, aerated, spray and massage, and spray and aeration.
