Letter: Nonsense column

To the editor:

Professor Krishtalka’s article (“Prof expects more nonsense in ’14), is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Krishtalka believes that rejecting evolution is akin to a denial of gravity. Equating the two has no real parallel (nonsense).

He goes on to assert that the contribution of human beings to the level of carbon dioxide will have catastrophic results. “Without intervention, these effects will mushroom as global average temperatures rise 2.5 to 10 degrees in the next 100 years.” Without noting that humans contribute a very small percentage to the carbon dioxide level, we are told that without human intervention the rise of global temperatures will cause severe problems.

Krishtalka does not define evolution, though it explains all. Based on past performances, we know that Krishtalka speaks with certainty that no Intelligence is needed for all the intelligence in the universe. In other words, no intelligence is the reason for intelligence? No intelligence causes the information in DNA? No intelligence has caused the incredible workings within the cell?

Without a real Designer in the universe, can we know real knowledge? Krishtalka, then, is speaking nonsense. Without a Designer in the universe there is no standard for morality and nothing really matters, including all the issues that Krishtalka raises. Death is inevitable for all and then nothing. It is all nonsense so we have no need to bother. Nonsense is all that is needed when one is using scare tactics.
