— Lawrence High’s girls basketball team defeated Wichita Southeast, 58-38, Friday in the second round of the Emporia Glacier’s Edge Invitational.

The Lions (3-9) were led by Kionna Coleman and Jolona Shield, who both scored in double figures. Coleman scored 14 points and grabbed 19 rebounds, and Shield knocked down five three-pointers to account for all 15 of her points.

“Our girls came out with really good energy,” LHS coach Nick Wood said.

LHS led 20-6 after the first quarter, and Wichita Southeast could not recover.

The Lions will play Wichita Heights at 11 a.m. today in the fifth-place game in Emporia.
