Aquahawks openings: The Aquahawks are always accepting new members. The Aquahawks are a year-round USA Swimming-sponsored competitive swim team. Stealth football: Lawrence Stealth of the Midwest Football League is looking for players 18 and older who want to compete on 2015 stealth roster. Davis honored: Central Oklahoma sophomore Katy Davis, a Free State High product, has been named to the All-MIAA volleyball first team. Davis took over the starting setter job and finished with 1,361 assists, an 11.53 per-set average that ranks third in the MIAA. She averaged 41.2 assists a match and had seven matches with 50-plus assists. She hadd 259 digs, 45 kills and 35 blocks.

Basketball clinic: PS Invitational Basketball Tournament & 4SquareAthletics will conduct a two-day 4SquareFOCUSbasketball clinic on Jan. 3-4 at South Middle School. Local former college and current high school players will be coaches. Indoor bicycle workouts: Ten-week program developed for cyclists from experts to beginners. Drills are based on your personal heart-rate zones, and perceived exertion, so they appear to be just right for your ability. A workout typically lasts one hour and consists of a series of progressively more intense cycling drills designed to improve your pedaling effiency, leg strength and endurance. Each drill mimics a real bike ride (sprints, hills, pace lines, etc.) and is set to music that matches the effort of the ride. The result is a lot of fun that sneaks in a hard workout. Second session of LPRD recreation basketball: Lawrence Parks and Recreation is taking registrations for those (K-8) interested in participating in the 2015 winter session of Youth Lawrence Parks & Recreation. Weight-lifting winner: Joe Walden of Lawrence set 11 American and 13 state records for his weight class and age group en route to winning the Strong as a Bull Powerlifting Championships over the weekend in Kansas City, Missouri. Competing at 76 KG (165.25 pounds) and in the 55-59 age group, Walden set records in squat (final record: 451.9 pounds), bench press (242.5 pounds), deadlift (458.5 pounds) and total (1,152 pounds). Walden had previously set world records (in the 181.75-pound class) while winning the International Powerlifting League’s World Championships in Las Vegas. He set world records in squat (463 pounds) and deadlift (479).

Racquetball winners: Darrell Sampson and Rick Bryant of Lawrence teamed to win the Men’s B Doubles Division at the 10th Annual Kansas Racquetball Association Winter Shootout Dec. 13 at The Athletic Club of Overland Park. Sampson and Bryant were also Consolation Bracket Champions in the Men’s A and C Singles divisions, respectively.
