• The American Institute of Architects (AIA), along with the AIA Foundation and the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture, has named Kansas University’s School of Architecture, Design and Planning as one of the 10 charter members of the AIA Design and Health Research Consortium. The consortium will help fund basic research on how design affects public health.

• Brady Pollington, the vice president of the Economic Development Corporation of Lawrence and Douglas County, graduated from the University of Oklahoma’s Economic Development Institute in November. The EDI is a weeklong, three-tier program that provides a broad spectrum of advanced education.

• Marvin Estill has been hired as the food and beverage director for the Olivia Collection, the holding company for The Oread and Eldridge Hotel, the company announced. Estill recently completed his Level 1 Sommelier certification in Las Vegas.

• The Lawrence Chamber of commerce has welcomed four new members to its organization: M Cubed Technologies, Mi Ranchito, General Dynamics Information Technology and Vintage Cooperates/Ewing Development.

• The Oread announced the addition of Brad Brown as its executive chief. Brown will oversee Five 21 restaurant and The Bird Dog Bar, in addition to the receptions, holiday parties, wine dinners and other events at The Oread.

• Elizabeth Hobson has joined the Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area as its new education and interpretation manager. She previously served as the daily programs coordinator at the Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Historic Site near Olathe.

• Marcom Awards, an international creative competition that recognizes marketing and communications achievements, included Lawrence’s Visitors Guide Magazine in its list of 2014 winners. The magazine, created by the Lawrence Convention and Visitors Bureau, was given the Gold Award because it exceeded “the high standards of the industry,” according to a news release.
