Today in Lawrence: Weekend of holiday happenings and warmer weather

Warming up

Thursday’s snow is all wrapped up, and Friday, Saturday and Sunday will move on to weather we’re more accustomed to: highs in the high 30s and low 40s with a mix of sun and clouds. Friday will see clouds and a high of about 36 degrees with a low of 30. Saturday will have some sunshine and a few clouds, with a high of 43 degrees. The low will be around 35 degrees. And Sunday will get even warmer, with a high of 47 and clouds, and a low of 41.

Christmas flick

It may not have the nostalgia of “White Christmas,” but “Die Hard” has plenty of Christmas at its core. The 1988 Christmas-action film starring Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman is screening at 7 p.m. and 9:40 p.m. Friday at Liberty Hall, 644 Massachusetts St.

Celtic Christmas

Lawrence native Ashley Davis’s haunting vocals marry a variety of Celtic traditions with a contemporary sensibility–evoking an enchanting magic. In this winter solstice celebration, Ashley’s ensemble will be joined by Dublin harper Cormac De Barra. Ashley Davis: Celtic Songs for a Winter’s Eve is at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Lied Center Pavilion, 1600 Stewart Drive.

From standup comedy to music and burlesque, there’s something for everyone at the Outlaw’s Wild West Christmas Show and Benefit for Toys for Tots! The show, featuring Outlaw Jake, Brock Wilbur, Romany Romany Jewel , Scarlet Harlot and Dolly Dimples Comedy of Peter Lyrene and Chance Dibben, is at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Granada Theater, 1020 Massachusetts St.

A Christmas formality

Everybody likes to get dressed up for the holidays. Break out your finery for the Annual Christmas Formal with The Jazzhaus Big Band at 10 p.m. Saturday at the The Jazzhaus, 926 1/2 Massachusetts St. Get your swingin’ groove on with the 19-piece band! There is a $5 cover at the door.

Menorah of Warmth

Join Chabad of KU for a menorah lighting ceremony and Hanukkah celebration at the Lawrence Arts Center! The 9-foot Menorah of Warmth will be decorated with mittens, socks and hats for those in need. New items will be collected at the ceremony. The Menorah of Warmth lighting ceremony is at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St.
