Headquarters Counseling strives to provide emotional support and safety to people in Douglas County through readily available counseling services. Headquarters is expanding its Fundraising Committee. Responsibilities of the committee include assisting with the acquisition of services, donations and sponsorship for upcoming events. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in party planning, event planning, art or music. • Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging advocates on aging issues and implements programs to help seniors live independent lives. JAAA is seeking volunteers to assist with the process of enrolling people in the Choosing Healthy Appetizing Meal Plan Solutions for Seniors (CHAMPSS) meal program in Lawrence. Volunteers are needed once a month for a two-hour time period. Tasks involve setting up tables and chairs and assisting CHAMPSS customers to complete their enrollment forms. • Lawrence Habitat for Humanity works with low-income families to give them the opportunity to own their own home. Lawrence Habitat is searching for individuals to join the Resource Development Committee, which makes sure that Lawrence Habitat has all the resources it needs to support its work. • The Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence provides before and after school programming to over 1,400 children at 14 sites across Lawrence. The Club is looking for volunteers to assist with their KidzLit program reading to students and participating in literacy activities. • The University of Kansas Audio-Reader Network exists to provide print-disabled people in Kansas and Missouri with access to the printed word and other information via electronic media and other technologies. Audio-Reader is looking for volunteer readers to read Kansas City-area newspapers from the Audio-Reader studio at Alphapointe, located at 7501 Prospect Avenue. • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Douglas County provides one-to-one relationships for children facing adversity. Are you looking to make a difference in the life of a young boy in our community? For a few hours, a couple times a month, you can give a “Little” the invaluable gift of your friendship. Big Brothers Big Sisters is looking for a male mentor to spend a few hours a week with a 9-year-old boy. This young boy loves sports, reading and hiking.
