Wycoff pours in 44 in Seabury’s victory

Seabury 91, Heritage Christian 25

Sophomore Mikey Wycoff scored 44 points to lead the Bishop Seabury boys basketball team to a 91-25 victory in its opener Friday against Topeka Heritage Christian.

“He’s a bad boy,” Seabury coach Ashley Battles said of Wycoff. “He’s one of the best players in state, and he did what he does.”

Wycoff got some help from his teammates as well, with Zach Mcdermott scoring 20 points and Max Easter chipping in 11.

The Seahawks will move play Midland Adventist on Tuesday.

Manhattan — Drake Napier scored 19 points, Chad Stieben scored 15, and Miles Dressler added 12 to lead Veritas past Smoky Valley in the Shea Tournament.

The Eagles will play for the tournament title at 6 p.m. today.

Eudora — Austin Downing scored 25 points to help make up for the absence of Mitchell Ballock, and Eudora opened with a narrow win.

Downing hit a basket to tie it late, then stole the inbounds and banked a three-pointer to win it.

Ballock, who has a scholarship offer to play for Kansas University, is expected to miss a month because of a stress fracture to his left foot.

Manhattan — Veritas reached the championship game of the Shea Invitational.

Tori Huslig had 16 points and seven steals, and Alyssa Krestan had eight points and 11 steals.

The Eagles will meet Flint Hills Christian at 3 p.m. today for the title.

“I thought we played a lot better,” Veritas coach Kevin Shelton said. Our defensive pressure is really going to be important for us this year, and we started showing a glimpse of that tonight. It was a nice step forward.”
