Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence receives KHF grant

The Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence has received a grant from the Kansas Health Foundation for its Triple Play health and wellness program.

The Kansas Health Foundation Recognition Grant awarded to the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence provides financial support to organizations doing meaningful work that is improving the health of citizens across the state.

The Boys & Girls Club integrates structured time each week on targeted programs focused on academic success, character building and healthy lifestyles. Triple Play, one of five targeted programs, focuses on three components for a holistic approach to health: mind, body and soul.

Triple Play is designed to improve the overall health of Club members by increasing their daily physical activity, teaching them good nutrition and helping them develop healthy relationships.

Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence Executive Director Colby Wilson said, “We are proud to have received recognition for the great work being done in our 14 Clubs across Lawrence, especially with regard to developing healthy lifestyles for our local young people. By investing in creating healthy habits for our youth, we know we are doing our part to set our kids on the path to success with a lifetime of health, not to mention avoiding the complications associated with childhood obesity.”

This fall, the Kansas Health Foundation provided more than $750,000 through this program to help organizations accomplish 41 different projects intended to improve the health and wellness of Kansans. Using a competitive application process, the foundation allocates up to $2 million each year for the Recognition Grants program.
