State closes Wheat State Pizza restaurant for unpaid taxes

A 23rd Street pizza parlor had its doors locked by the Kansas Department of Revenue on Tuesday for failure to pay about $42,000 in state taxes.

The assets of Wave the Wheat Pizza LLC — also known as Wheat State Pizza — were seized by state officials. The business, located at 711 W. 23rd St. in the Malls Shopping Center, was closed.

According to a press release from the Kansas Department of Revenue, the business and its owners — Bradley L. and Jennifer R. Remington — owed $42,062 in past due sales and withholding taxes. The unpaid taxes dated back to August 2010.

The Department of Revenue plans to auction the assets of the business in an effort to pay the taxes owed. The department said it took the action after several other attempts to settle the debt were unsuccessful.

Attempts to reach the owners of the business for comment were not successful on Tuesday.
