Today's high is forecast for 94 degrees and a super-sticky 71 percent humidity. , The low is expected to be 69, with a 50 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms during the night as the humidity rises even higher.

You started that quilt, then lost steam. Or maybe you just didn't know how to proceed from there. At its August meeting, the Kaw Valley Quilters Guild has the expertise to help you take the next step. Betty New will present, “I’ve Made a Quilt Top. What Do I Do Now?!” for beginning free motion quilting from 7 to 9 p.m. at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vermont St. Finish up that project, and learn enough to tackle a new one!

All that jazz

It's never too late to find your rhythm. Professional jazz singer Donna Tucker will direct the Nine Four-O jazz vocal show choir for eighth- to 12th-graders, and auditions are today. Students should prepare a jazz, contemporary or musical theater piece and bring sheet music. Auditions run from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St.
