Four men charged in Thursday morning burglaries in Lawrence

Four men police linked to a string of burglaries early Thursday morning were charged with varying offenses Friday, including burglary, attempted aggravated burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary and theft.

The men were arrested Thursday morning at different locations throughout West Lawrence, the first suspect shortly after midnight near the 3700 block of Stetson Drive and the final suspect just before 7 a.m. near the Hy-Vee in the 4000 block of West Sixth Street. They had broken into homes and a vehicle and attempted to break in to others, Lawrence police said.

On Friday, Stephan Thompson, 21, of Parker was charged with aggravated burglary, theft, conspiracy to commit burglary, attempted aggravated burglary and criminal damage to property. District Judge James T. George set Thompson’s bond at $30,000, given Thompson’s prior conviction of burglary of a non-dwelling building in Linn County.

Stefan Davis, 21, of Parker was charged with aggravated burglary, theft and conspiracy to commit burglary. George set Thompson’s bond at $20,000, given Thompson’s criminal history of an aggravated battery conviction in Miami County.

Tyler Snipes, 18, of Lawrence, was charged with burglary, theft and conspiracy to commit burglary for his alleged involvement in the case. When asked if he understood the charges, Snipes said, “I did not drive, they came to pick me up.” George set Snipes’ bond at $7,500. Snipes also faces a pending theft case in Johnson County.

Michael Dale Eller, 20, of LaCynge, was charged with theft and conspiracy to commit burglary in the burglary spree. George set Eller’s bond at $5,000. Eller has a pending case of aggravated burglary and criminal damage out of Miami County, according to Assistant District Attorney Kathleen Britton.

The four men charged in the burglary spree may not have contact with one another or any witnesses other than police. They next will return to court Aug. 19.
