Teen drama miniseries to premiere this weekend

The locally made teen drama miniseries “A Band Apart” will premiere this Saturday at the Lawrence Arts Center followed by a Q&A session with the cast and first-time filmmaker Grace X. Oliver.

The six-episode series set in 2016-2017 follows the lives of 15 teenagers as political unrest looms and a new president takes office. Oliver, a Free State High School graduate who will be television and radio major at Ithaca College in New York this fall, wrote the screenplay, held open auditions, and cast the series. It was made entirely with volunteers.

The screening begins at 2 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The Q&A session starts at 4:30 p.m.

Because of strong language, references to drugs and alcohol, and mild sexuality, the series is unrated and meant for a teen and adult audience.
