Window-restoration ‘boot camp’ coming to Lecompton’s Constitution Hall

The Kansas Historical Society, with funding from the Douglas County Heritage Conservation Council, will host a window-restoration boot camp next month in Lecompton.

From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 15 through 19, restoration expert Bob Yapp will guide participants in the weatherization and restoration of nine complete, double-hung windows in Lecompton’s Constitution Hall, 319 Elmore St.

Attendees can learn how to remove wooden window sashes for repair, safely trip old paint and glazing putty, and repair wooden elements of historic windows.

Registration is $75 per person and provides materials, equipment and lunches. Contractors and traditional carpenters are encouraged to sign up, though the event’s registration is limited to 18 participants.

To register, contact the Cultural Resources division of the Kansas Historical Society at 272-8681, extension 240, or cultural_resources@kshs.org.
