Fun in Vinland
The charming Vinland Fair brings its homespun brand of fun back for another year. Today’s activities include stock bicycle races and a tug-of-war. On Saturday, test your watermelon-seed spitting skills at the fair’s competition. There will be live music both evenings and homemade ice cream on Saturday. Events are at the Vinland Fairgrounds, 1736 North 700 Road.
You never know what you’ll find at the Three-Church Rummage Sale, taking place at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vermont St.; Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vermont St.; and Trinity Episcopal, 1011 Vermont St. The sale is from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. today and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.
Sandbar Subs is celebrating its first year in downtown Lawrence with a Birthday Block Party at 6 p.m. today. The party will be outdoors on Eighth Street between Massachusetts and New Hampshire streets. Beer garden opens at 6 p.m. and the cover charge is $5; must be 21 or older to enter the beer garden. The event is family-friendly, and kids and lawn chairs are welcome outside the beer garden. There is no cost to attend unless you’re entering the beer garden.
ConfabuLarryum is Lawrence’s first-ever Festival of Creativity! Get the juices flowing from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Southwest Middle School, 2511 Inverness Drive. The event is free and has activities for kids and adults, including 3-D printing, a pinewood car “Nerdy Derby” and design challenges.
Bring your weekend to a close with perfect summertime Sunday entertainment. The Summer Sunday Afternoon Ragtime Party features the Kansas Appleknocker Classic Ragtime Duo from 2 to 4 p.m. at Watkins Museum of History, 1047 Massachusetts St.
