Lawrence woman, two Leavenworth men charged with aggravated robbery in alleged drug deal gone wrong

A Lawrence woman and two Leavenworth County men were charged Thursday with aggravated robbery after allegedly taking money from a Lawrence woman at gunpoint Tuesday night.

Amber Baker, 24, Darvon Thomas, 18, and Darnell Warfield Jr., 25, made their first appearance in court Thursday after their arrests early Wednesday morning in Leavenworth County.

On Tuesday night, Lawrence Police Department spokesman Trent McKinley said officers were dispatched to the scene of a home invasion robbery just after 11 p.m. Victims said Baker, Thomas and Warfield came to a home in the 3000 block of Havrone Way to purchase marijuana, according to police.

McKinley said Thomas and Warfield pulled guns on the home’s occupants and the three suspects robbed them of an undisclosed amount of money and drugs, according to one of the victims.

After the altercation, the trio fled toward Leavenworth but were stopped early Wednesday morning in Leavenworth County and taken into custody, McKinley said. Officers recovered marijuana and two handguns from the vehicle, he said.

McKinley said the victims have not been arrested for any drug-related crimes in connection with the incident.

Douglas County District Court Judge James T. George set Baker and Thomas’ bonds at $40,000 each. Warfield’s bond was set at $60,000 because of his past criminal history. An aggravated battery charge carries a sentence of up to 247 months in prison.

Warfield also was charged with one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, which carries a sentence of up to 23 months in prison if convicted.
