Nearly 30 people have applied for the position of leading the Dwayne Peaslee Technical Training Center, Lawrence chamber and economic development officials said.

The center, which will offer adult technical education from a consortium of Kansas community colleges, is expected to open in August 2015.

The selection committee includes Cindy Yulich, chair of the Economic Development Corporation of Lawrence and Douglas County; Douglas County Administrator Craig Weinaug; Lawrence City Manager David Corliss; Lawrence schools Superintendent Rick Doll; Hugh Carter, vice president of external affairs for the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce; and Shirley Martin-Smith, a member of the board of the Peaslee Center.
