Irvine, Calif. ? Free State High senior Courtney Caldwell placed 35th in the 100-meter freestyle Thursday at the Speedo Junior National Championships.

Caldwell took third in her heat, swimming to a time of 57.26. She was 56th in the 100 fly (1:02.31).

Caldwell is expected to race in the 100 back today and 50 free Sunday.

Meanwhile, 15-year-old Lawrence native Michael Andrew finished third in the 100 fly, posting a time of 53.46, which ranks sixth nationally all-time in the 15-16 year old age group.
