Ex-Eudora football coach charged in theft

Former Eudora High football coach Kevin Kopecky was charged with two counts of felony theft during his time coaching at Leavenworth, according to the Leavenworth Times.

A complaint filed July 9 in Leavenworth County District Court alleges Kopecky, who resigned as Eudora coach in March after one season, stole a total of $2,888 from 2011-12.

“Since learning of the allegations against him in Leavenworth, we have thoroughly reviewed our high school’s financial records and found no irregularities during the time of his employment here,” Eudora district spokesperson Kristin Magette wrote in a statement.

When reached by phone by the Journal-World Friday evening, Kopecky said he was advised by his lawyers to decline comment.
