KU women’s golfer second in Big 12

Yupaporn Kawinpakorn

? Kansas University sophomore Yupaporn Kawinpakorn tied for second, and KU’s team tied for fourth — the Jayhawks’ best-ever Big 12-tournament finish — at the conference championship on Sunday at the University of Texas Golf Club.

Kawinpakorn finished with a three-round score of 5-under 211. She shot 3-under 69 on Sunday.

Her finish was a personal- and Kansas-record low for 54 holes, breaking the previous record of 212 set by Amanda Costner in 2005.

KU’s fourth-place finish was its best in the 18-year history of the Big 12 and best league finish since Kansas was third in the 1992 Big Eight Tournament.

Oklahoma’s Chirapat Jao-Javanil was low individual at 209. Kawinpakorn and Texas’ Natalie Karcher tied for second.

Kansas’ other scores: Minami Levonowich and Pornvipa Sakee tied for 26th at 227; Thanuttra Boonraksasat tied for 33rd at 228; and Meghan Potee was 35th at 230.

KU will learn if it earned an NCAA regional bid at 5 tonight on a selection show that will air on The Golf Channel, available locally on WOW! Cable channels 156 and 289.
