Kansas softball shut out again

? Kansas University managed seven hits over five innings, but the punchless Jayhawks softball offense couldn’t score. Again.

After a 10-0 loss to 14th-ranked Baylor on Sunday that was shortened to five innings by mercy rule, Kansas has lost six straight and nine of 10 and has scored just one run in its last four games combined.

“We had our chances today and weren’t able to capitalize,” KU coach Megan Smith said. “You have to give a lot of credit to Baylor and its senior class. I admire what they’ve done and accomplished.”

Baylor (36-12 overall, 9-4 Big 12) collected 12 hits — and three home runs — off three KU pitchers, including losing Kelsey Kessler (17-12).

Holly Holl homered to give the Bears a 2-0 lead in the first, then Kessler threw two scoreless innings before Baylor blew up for eight runs in the fourth.

Kansas will travel May 2-4 for a series at Texas.
