Kansas men’s golf in seventh

? Kansas University freshman Chase Hanna shot rounds of even-par 72 and 4-over 76 and was tied for eighth place after the first day of the Big 12 men’s golf tournament Friday at Whispering Pines.

Halfway through the four-round event, KU is in seventh place in the nine-team field with a two-round total of 598. Texas leads with a 572 total, followed by Texas Tech at 577.

KU sophomore Ben Welle was tied for 13th with a two-round score of 147.

Ben Welle was tied for 13th at 147, Ryley Haas tied for 21st at 150, and Connor Peck and Logan Philley tied for 42nd at 158.

Texas Tech’s Esteba Restrepo leads the tournament with a two-round score of 4-under 140. He has a one-stroke edge over the Texas trio of Toni Hakula, Kramer Kickok and Beau Hossler.

Iowa State and TCU were tied for third (592), followed by Oklahoma (593), Oklahoma State (594), Kansas (598), Baylor (599) and Kansas State (623).

The tournament will continue with 18 holes today and conclude with 18 holes Sunday.
