Kansas University’s 4×200-meter relay team broke a 2-year-old record in the event with a runner-up finish Friday at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.

The KU team of Diamond Dixon, Alisha Keys, Tianna Valentine and Sydney Conley placed second in 1:34.66.

Notre Dame won with a time .12 seconds faster in a later heat.

Earlier Friday, the KU women’s 4×100 relay team — the same members as the 4×200 — won its heat in 44.63 and qualified for today’s finals.

Conley also qualified for today’s 100 finals with a personal-best 11.66.

Multi-events specialist Lindsay Vollmer placed 16th in the 100-meter hurdle prelims (13.88), then was 13th in the long jump (5.74 meters, or 18 feet, 10 inches).

KU’s 4×400 men’s and women’s relay teams didn’t qualify for finals.

Thrower 10th

Meanwhile, in La Jolla, Calif., Kansas senior Jessica Maroszek threw the discus 55.9 meters (183-5) to place 10th in the invitational event at the Triton Invitational. She was the second collegiate finisher, and her throw ranks among the top 10 in the NCAA ranks this year.

Teammate Anastasiya Muchkayev placed 17th at 49.63 meters (162-10).

And in the hammer throw, Daina Levy placed seventh at 61.1 meters (200-5).

Kansas athletes will compete in both meets again today.
