• Robert Goldstein, a Kansas University distinguished geology professor, won the annual geoscience education award from the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. The award goes to professors who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in the field of geoscience education. Goldstein, also KU’s associate dean for the natural sciences and mathematics, is the third winner of the annual award.

• Alex Goodpaster has been announced as the next community bank president of CornerBank’s Lawrence market.

Goodpaster comes to CornerBank with more than 10 years of banking experience. He received his MBA from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

• Mark Lumpe, of Wakarusa Valley Farm in Lawrence, has been recommended to receive an $11,320 grant from the North Central Region Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program. The grant is for a collaboration project among three farms in northeast Kansas to develop a system for collecting agricultural byproducts from local farms for use as a growing medium for mushrooms.

• Kansas University announced 11 employees of the month from October through March.

The honorees from October 2013 are: Cathy Johnson, business manager for Transportation Research Institute and Jeff Worth, electronics technologist for the Department of Physics & Astronomy.

November: Delmar “Moe” Henley, facility services worker, and Pavika Saripalli, chief of staff at KU’s Student Health Services.

December: Anne Sawyer, executive assistant to the dean at the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

January: Regina Sherill, office manager for International Student Services, and Lois Weldon, research aide at the Beach Center on Disability.

February: Michael Hulet, senior network administrator for the Information and Telecommunication Technology Center, and Laura Sellers, supervisor of central crafts and special services for the Department of Facilities.

March: April Huston, cashier at the Hawk Food Stop in Strong Hall, and Daphne Johnston, associate director of International Recruitment and Undergraduate Admissions.
