19-year-old Lawrence man suspected of sexual battery and hitting KU police

A 19-year-old Lawrence man is in Douglas County Jail on suspicion of sexual battery and battery of law enforcement officers.

Kansas University police responded to an incident at 5:20 p.m. Saturday at Snow Hall after the suspect allegedly grabbed a 20-year-old female KU student and touched her in a sexual manner. KU police say the suspect also pushed a witness and hit two police officers.

The suspect is not a KU student, said Sgt. Schuyler Bailey, a KU Public Safety Department spokesman, and is still in Douglas County Jail on suspicion of one count of sexual battery, one count of battery and one count of battery of a law enforcement officer. As of Monday, Bailey said the suspect remained in custody.

The victim sustained minor injuries that did not require any treatment, Bailey said.
