Roadwork: Construction planned this week

Lawrence

• The intersection of 15th and Iowa streets is open to traffic in all directions. Construction remains on Iowa Street north of the intersection. Crews will first work on the southbound lanes of Iowa Street from 15th Street to Harvard Road and then work on the northbound lanes. Traffic will be down to one lane in each direction until the project is completed in mid-November.

• Through traffic has been opened on Wakarusa Drive. Lane closures to the outside lanes will remain while construction occurs on Oread West Drive and the sidewalks on the east and west side of Wakarusa Drive.

• The city has begun water main installation on Oxford Road, from Iowa Street to Hilltop. The road will be closed to thru traffic with no parking on the street, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

• Because of the renovation and expansion of the Lawrence Public Library, there are intermittent closures of the street in the 700 block of Vermont or Kentucky when crews need to unload materials for construction.

• The city of Lawrence will replace a water main on Ponderosa from East 27th Street to East 28th Terrace. There will be no parking, and the road will be closed to through traffic from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

• Kentucky Street from Seventh to Eighth streets is down to one lane. There will be intermittent closures of Kentucky Street when crews need to unload materials for the Lawrence Public Library or parking garage construction.

• The city of Lawrence’s utilities department began a water main installation on Oxford Road, from Iowa Street to Hilltop. The road will be closed to through traffic with no parking on the street, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

• Contractors for the City of Lawrence have begun the 2013 overlay and curb rehabilitation program. When feasible, through traffic in both directions will be generally maintained throughout the project with flaggers, traffic control devices, and signage. There is a possibility of street closures with detours, if necessary, as well as partial street closures to through traffic. Residences will be notified if access to driveways will be restricted while work is performed during concrete curing periods and days that asphalt surface overlay is applied.

• Garney Construction will be installing waterline and constructing a metering station for the City of Baldwin and Douglas County Rural Water District No. 4. Installation of the watermain willcommence at O’Connell Road and Prairie Terrace and continue south approximately 2,000 feet north of 1100 Road on the city-owned property for the future Wakarusa Wastewater Treatment Plant. The project also includes the replacement of an existing Rural Water District waterline along 1175 Road from 1600 Road to 1500 Road (Haskell Avenue). Residents can expect to see construction equipment, materials, and construction activity within public right-of-way and utility easements. No access restrictions, lane closures, or detours are planned as part of this project.

• Crack sealing north of Sixth Street in the neighborhoods east and west of Monterrey Way will force temporary lane closures during working hours, weather permitting.

Route 458 (E 1000 Road)

• Route 458 (E 1000 Road) between N 1156 Road and N 1200 Road will be closed beginning Tuesday morning for a culvert replacement project. The roadway will be reopened by 5 p.m. Friday, weather permitting.

A signed detour will guide traffic around the closure following N 1150 Road and E 900 Road (the road across the top of Clinton Lake dam) to E 902 Road and N 1200 Road (the lower Clinton Lake dam road that accesses Eagle Bend Golf Course).

The closure is required to replace a deteriorated culvert approximately 300 feet north of N 1156 Road.

U.S. Highway 56

• All lanes of eastbound and westbound U.S. Highway 56 from East 1400 Road to Sixth Street in Baldwin City will be closed to through traffic as repairs are made on the road. A 30-mile marked detour route is provided. The project is expected to be competed in mid-October prior to the Maple Leaf Festival.

Old U.S. Highway 59

• Northbound and southbound Old U.S. Highway 59 from 1000 Road to the Douglas/Franklin County line will be reduced to one lane, both directions, for resurfacing work. Traffic will be directed via a flagging operation. Project work is scheduled to be completed in late September 2013.

• Northbound and southbound East 1300 Road from North 1000 to North 650 roads will be closed to through traffic for a bridge replacement project on Old U.S. 59. Completion date: November.
