Shawnee ? Mill Valley 27, Tonganoxie 7

Ty Bruce ran for 101 yards and a touchdown and threw for 88 yards as Mill Valley High stayed undefeated with a football victory Friday against Tonganoxie.

The Class 5A Jaguars (4-0, 3-0 Kaw Valley League) scored on offense, defense and special teams in the win against the 4A Chieftains (3-1, 2-1).

Following a scoreless first quarter, the MVHS defense scored when T.J. Phillips returned an interception 57 yards for a touchdown. THS went three-and-out on the ensuing possession, and the Jaguars made it 14-0 on a one-yard scoring run by Tyler Garrison with 6:49 left until halftime.

Neither team scored again before the break.

Bruce scored from eight yards out on Mill Valley’s first drive of the second half, then Christian Jegen capped off Jaguar scoring with a 48-yard punt-return touchdown early in the fourth quarter.

The Chieftains avoided a shutout when quarterback Tyler Ford found Carl Hecht for a three-yard score in the final minutes.

Nick Wilson complemented Bruce’s rushing performance with 69 yards on 14 carries. Tonganoxie’s Cole Holloway led all ball carriers, rushing 18 times for 105 yards. Ford was 15-of-29 passing for 118 yards, but was picked off twice.

Mill Valley will host Bonner Springs next week, while Tonganoxie will travel to Bishop Ward.

Baldwin 45, Spring Hill 6

Spring Hill — Baldwin Bulldogs remained undefeated with a rout against Spring Hill.

Baldwin jumped out front 6-0 when it marched 72 yards on 10 plays to score on its first possession. Senior running back Cornell Brown ended the drive with a 23-yard touchdown run on a draw play.

The Bulldogs effectively put the game away with two second-quarter touchdowns. Sophomore Jake Katzer scored on a 24-yard run, and senior quarterback Chad Berg ended the first-half scoring with a 83-yard touchdown scramble.

Katzer ran for two third-quarter touchdowns as the Bulldogs built a 42-0 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Baldwin is 4-0 overall and 2-0 in Frontier League play.

Paola 28, Eudora 14

Eudora — Paola scored one touchdown in each quarter en route to a victory over Eudora.

A 12-yard touchdown run by Andrew Ballock cut the Cardinals’ deficit to 21-14 in the third quarter. Eudora also scored on a 31-yard pass play from Ballock to Grant Elston in the second quarter.

Ballock completed 15 of 27 passes for 154 yards.

Eudora (3-1) will entertain Spring Hill on Friday.

McLouth — Drew Cerny had nine rushes for 162 yards and two touchdowns, and McLouth rolled up 377 yards of total offense, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Olpe.

Jack Courtney completed 14 of 28 passes for 246 yards and two TDs for McLouth, and Nick McAferty had 10 catches for 179 yards and two scores.
