Collect all seven: Banned books trading cards to be released one day at a time

By the end of Banned Books Week, Lawrencians will have been able to collect a full set of this year’s banned books trading cards — each featuring artwork representing a banned or challenged book on the front and stats on the back.

The Lawrence Public Library will release one of the seven winning cards per day throughout the week, Sunday through Sept. 28.

Cards will be available for free at both the library, 700 New Hampshire St., and the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St. After Sept. 28, remaining cards will be sold at the library and through www.lawrence.lib.ks.us for $7 a set plus a mailing fee.

Here’s the lineup of this year’s winning artists, the books they represented and the day their cards will be released:

Sunday — Mary Burchill, “Bless Me, Ultima”; Monday — Nicholas Ward, “Leaves of Grass”; Tuesday — Leah Hoelscher, “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian”; Wednesday — Chloe Seim, “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”; Thursday — Blake Nations, “Charlotte’s Web”; Friday — Bobbie-Frances McDonald, “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings”; and Saturday — Barry Fitzgerald, “The Catcher in the Rye.”
