LHS tennis 9-3 at Topeka quad

? Lawrence High’s girls tennis team won nine of 12 matches Tuesday in a quadrangular delayed a day and moved from LHS to Topeka.

The Lions defeated Washburn Rural, 4-0, and Topeka High, 3-1, and tied with Washburn Rural, 2-2.

Kendall Pritchard went 3-0 at No. 1 singles, Erin Ventura was 2-0 in No. 2 singles, and Yelena Birt was 1-0 in No. 2 singles.

Birt and Caroline Baloga went 2-0 in No. 2 doubles, and Brooke Braman and Zoe Schneider won a match at No. 1 doubles.

“I was very happy with the way Kendall Pritchard stepped up and played,” LHS coach Chris Marshall said. “Whitney Simons had a prior obligation on Tuesday and was not able to go, so Kendall stepped up and played No. 1 for us. She battled very, very well. I was also pleased with Erin Ventura stepping up to play No. 2 singles in some of the matches.”

The Lions will return to the same courts today for the Topeka Invitational.

“Hopefully we can continued to play well there,” Marshall said.
