LHS tennis 4th at Topeka tourney

? Lawrence High’s Kendall Pritchard went 4-0 for first place in No. 2 singles, and the Lions’s girls tennis team took fourth among eight schools Wednesday at the Topeka Invitational.

The Lions’ Whitney Simons was 1-3 for seventh place in No. 1 singles, Brooke Braman and Zoe Schnieder were 2-2 for fourth in No. 1 doubles, and Yelena Birt and Caroline Baloga were 3-1 for third in No. 2 doubles.

Pritchard’s four victories followed her 3-0 showing in No. 1 singles in a quadrangular Tuesday in Topeka.

“I thought Kendall played very well,” LHS coach Chris Marshall said. “She had a very good two days. Maybe we should play in Topeka more often. She’s having a heck of a season, the way she battles and wins those crucial points.

“I was also pleased with the No. 2 doubles,” Marshall said. “They started out slow, but they were able to put together three wins in a row.”

Next action for the Lions is Monday in a home quadrangular.
