FSHS soccer wins opener, 2-1 in overtime

? AJ Ware scored in the fourth minute of overtime, and Free State High’s boys soccer team opened its season Thursday night with a 2-1 victory over Lansing.

The Firebirds took a 1-0 lead in the second half when Ernesto Hodison scored off a rebound of a shot taken by Chris Allen. Lansing later tied the score at 1.

“I think, for our first game, we’ll take it,” Free State coach Kelly Barah said. “There are a whole lot of things we need to work on, but we’re optimistic we can take care of it.”

The Firebirds (1-0) will entertain De Soto on Monday.
