Football season is finally here, and that means one thing: It’s time to step up your style game.

Thankfully, gameday style has evolved into so much more than jeans and a boxy T-shirt with your favorite team’s logo printed on the front. I’m always on the hunt for stylish sporty attire, so when I stepped into Fortuity, at 809 Massachusetts St., I was like a kid in a candy store.

This adorable boutique is filled with crimson and blue. I found their assortment to be unique and fashion-forward, so I knew I would easily find something to wear to the games.

When you’re going to any sporting event, comfort should be your first priority, as you’ll most likely be walking and moving around.

As you’re trying on clothes, make sure you’re completely comfortable and you’re able to move around because there’s no point in buying those skin-tight, non-stretch jeans if you’re not able to sit down in them.

Skinny jeans with a little stretch are always a style-savvy option. If you’re ever stumped on what to wear to a game, always start by looking for colored skinny jeans in the team’s colors because you will most likely find them — nowadays they come in just about any shade. And that’s exactly what I did.

I conveniently found a pair of comfy, blue skinny jeans to pair with an equally comfortable peplum top.

If you’ve ever walked by Fortuity, you’ve seen their selection of Kansas University cowgirl boots in the window. I couldn’t resist throwing them on to complete my look.

Accessories

Accessorizing for gameday is simple. You can never over-accessorize when you’re rooting for your team.

I like chunky necklaces that stay within the same color scheme of your outfit. Bracelets and earrings can add a feminine touch to your sporty look so don’t skimp on those.

Again, because it is game day, I tend to go a little over-the-top with my style, which is why I couldn’t say no to a charming KU bow in my hair.

Dress

I’ve never been one to pass up a dress, but when you’re going to a game and you’re wearing a dress or a skirt, make sure to keep it sporty.

You want to go for a feminine, sporty balance. One way to do this is to pair your skirt or dress with regular sneakers or even wedge sneakers.

Another way to create that balance is to tuck a graphic tee or tank into a skirt so you’re still showing off your sporty style but with a feminine touch.

Layering

Layering is another important factor to keep in mind when you’re gearing up for gameday.

As the weather gets cooler, you can layer with cute cardigans that you may wear with your everyday outfits over a graphic tee or tank.

Fortuity has cute gameday-worthy cardigans that are conveniently in KU’s colors. A classic jean jacket is also a great layering piece that you may even already own.
