— Arizona State scored on its first shot, in the seventh minute, and went on to claim a 4-0 rout over Kansas University in a nonconference soccer match Sunday.

The outcome snapped KU’s four-game unbeaten streak and was the first time KU had allowed four or more goals in 36 matches.

KU fell to 3-2-1, and ASU improved to 4-1.

Despite five first-half corner kicks, KU had trouble establishing attacks in the opening 45 minutes, with just three shots, none of which were on goal.

On the other end, the ASU offense made life tough for the Kansas backline throughout the opening half as junior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Stroud faced seven shots and tallied three saves.

Arizona State led just 1-0 at the half, but pulled away with a pair of goals in quick succession — in the 50th and 53rd minutes.

Stroud finished with eight saves, one short of her career high, and faced 23 shots, the most allowed by KU this season.

Kansas will host the Jayhawk Invitational, Sept. 13-15 at Jayhawk Soccer Complex. KU will face San Diego at 4:30 p.m. Friday in a match that will be televised on Metro Sports and ESPN3.com.
