Readings at the Raven to feature escaped tigers and epic rides

The Raven Book Store, 6 E. Seventh St., is hosting a series of readings from regional writers today and Friday.

At 7 p.m. today, Cathy Callen and Tracy Millon Simmons, authors of two books set in Kansas, will give readings from their works. Callen’s book, “Running out of Footprints,” is a mostly historical story that follows a family’s migration to the Kansas City area. Simmons will read from her book “Tiger Hunting,” which is about a girl hunting a white tiger that escaped from a circus.

Former Outside magazine senior editor Kevin Fedarko will read from his book “The Emerald Mile: The Epic Story of the Fastest Ride in History Through the Heart of the Grand Canyon,” at 7 p.m. Friday. The book tells the story of Kenton Grua, Rudi Petchek and Steve “Wren” Reynolds, who adventured on a river trip through the Grand Canyon River in 1983.
