No injures were reported in a school bus accident near West Second Street and McDonald Drive this afternoon, according to police.

The accident involved a bus carrying children from West Middle School, according to school district officials. The bus collided with another vehicle while turning left from McDonald Drive onto West Princeton Boulevard shortly before 4 p.m., said Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence Police Department spokesman. The bus belonged to the First Student, Inc., school bus company, and was taking students to homes off Peterson Road, said Julie Boyle, a Lawrence school district spokeswoman.

No one appeared to have been injured in the accident, and another bus was sent to continue taking the students home.

The vehicle that collided with the bus was towed from the scene, McKinley said, but no one in that vehicle appeared to have been injured, either. Police have not yet publicly identified the drivers of either vehicle.

My son was on that bus. It was caused by somebody that was driving and texting. That car ran a red light at full speed. Luckily nobody was hurt. I can't stand cell phones. Hopefully that person got what they deserved. Lets prevent this before something else bad happens like a kid crossing the street and gets hit. Thanks

Saw a First Student bus run a red light on 23rd at Naismith this morning (Tues.9-3) about 11:15. Cars turning onto 23rd from both directions stopped in time. The bus stopped in the middle of the intersection, but then when on west. Couldn't catch up to it to get a number.

Sounds like the bus driver made a stupid turn in front of traffic.
