Record-holding long-distance hiker to visit Lawrence, share stories from new book

The woman who hiked the 2,181-mile Appalachian Trail in a record 46 and a half days will visit Lawrence’s Sunflower Outdoor and Bike Shop this month.

Jennifer Pharr Davis, the first woman to hold the overall record for the Appalachian Trail, averaged 46.9 miles per day on the hike. Also the 2012 National Geographic Adventurer of the Year, Davis has hiked more than 11,000 miles of long-distance trails on six continents and also holds endurance records in Vermont’s Long Trail and Australia’s Bibbulmun Track.

In Lawrence, Davis will share stories from her new book, “Called Again: Love and Triumph on the Appalachian Trail.” She’ll be at Sunflower, 802 Massachusetts St., the afternoon of Sept. 14, with a presentation planned at 7 p.m. The event is free.
